On the Daily
It took me a long time to name this Daily Tee pattern, because I wanted it to be so many things.
While working around the house in recent years, I frequently throw on an ancient grey popover-vest-situation, which technically used to be a big sweater with a loose, generous turtleneck. Boxy and one hundered percent wool, I have fond memories of its original form as a toasty J. Crew college sweater, cocooning me against the Wisconsin cold. I have long since removed the neck and arms, which is how it came to be a loose vest layer; good for chilly, indoorsy days, leaving my arms free but my body warm.
In short, it is the garment that made me vest-curious.
When I started trying to create a knitting pattern for a similar garment, I was drawn to some yarn that I already had around - some extra skeins of Blue Sky Fibers Techno. This yarn is wonderfully cozy but still so light that you are warm but do not feel weighed down when wearing it.
As I was knitting my idea, the garment took on a life of it’s own, as they so often do. The final result came out slightly more Cozy T-shirt than Everything Vest, but then I threw it over some shirts and realized that it can do both. It can do all kinds of things, on the daily.
The Daily Tee pattern is being written more as a general recipe than a specific pattern, to recognize that it likely can be knit up in multiple yarn weights and with a few other knitter’s choice features as well.
I’m so curious how many ways it might come out for other people. I am still editing; reach out and let me know if you are interested in making a version of this - it is very easy!
